THE DUO

This long-term collection was inspired by the Genesis 6:19 in the Bible, "And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shall you bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female".

Why Two?

As a Buddhist, the first question that came to mind when I first heard about this Bible text was, "Why does it have to be two?" I contemplated the possible reasons behind the special significance of number. It wasn't until I looked at the photos I took for fun that I discovered the random pairing of characters surprisingly added a meaningful tone to the beauty, leading to my curiosity about what that tone actually was. Over time, I slowly came to understand that it was connection.

If you have a connection to yourself, it will be the strongest one, as it is harder to break, as I equate this with the term self-centered. Now, imagine a group of three or more where each person connects with one another, the group relationship would become stronger, eventually the strongest, due to the growing layers of connections, which we often refer to as a community. A connection between two people is quite interesting because it requires attention and awareness from both sides to handle with care. A break tends to occur when one of them stops putting in effort, or when both struggle to find balance. The connection between two people holds a hidden power because, once well established, both individuals consciously know and feel the bond between them, regardless of their position in different dimensions of time and space.

For that reason, I decided to curate all the photos that highlight the invisible yet truly existing connection between two characters, regardless of their genders, because I believe a strong connection does not necessarily have to be between two people of opposite sexes.
